We don’t see things the way they are, we see things the way WE are.

We don’t see things the way they are, we see things the way WE are.

Ever wake up on the wrong side of the bed and from the moment forward EVERYTHING seems to go wrong. You stub your toe on the bed, you look horrible in your clothes, the weather isn’t right. Even if it’s a sunny day outside, you squint your eyes annoyed at how bright it is. On the other hand, ever get a promotion, or been in love, or heard a song that has strong nostalgic value of a wonderful time in your life? The birds seem to chirp, rainbows appear and if a friend comes to you with a story of misfortune you are able to see the bright side right away to help bring them out of their misery.

The point is the sun will rise, the sun will set, there will be sunny days and cloudy days that’s for certain. The thing that changes day to day is how we interpret the things happening around us. Depending on our moods, a rainy day can be a nuisance or a fun excuse to frolic outside.

When we are in a certain mind set we tend to Frame things that are in correlation with that mindset. That is where the term “looking through rose colored glasses” comes from. When we are in a good mood we are looking through those good mood glasses all day long.

This is good news because when we find ourselves seeing everything in a negative light we have the power to change it. Just by pulling our thoughts into the awareness that we are creating the suffering things will automatically change. The facts will remain facts, but how you react to them will be different and how you Feel about them will change.

Recently, one of my very best friends had her moving truck stolen. Can you imagine!?!? ALL of your belongings gone in a moment, just like that. Talk about a violation! My pet peeve is when bad things happen to good people and I was just completely distraught over the news. When she wrote me she expressed of course her dismay, but in the same sentence wrote that it was “just stuff” and that she felt fortunate that the criminals didn’t harm her or her fiancé! She is such a super hero cosmic warrior! You can do the same? A fact is a fact, her stuff was gone and that sucks. She wasn’t in denial; the truth was the truth. The truth also was that she has the love of her life, her health and well being and NO ONE can take THAT away. She just as easily could have fallen apart over material things but instead framed the situation to where she could see how she actually came out on top.

Can you think of situations that were truly difficult, but if framed differently, you may not have felt so bad about the outcome?

Keep this in mind the next time you find yourself saying, “NOTHING is going right for me today”. When that thought crosses your mind, quickly make a mental list of all the things that are going oh so right for you. You can always start off with, how it easy it was for you to take the breath you just took without even having to think about it, what a blessing. Go from there.

Remember: We don’t see things the way they are, we see things the way WE are.

How are you going to show up today?
